Glitter Christmas Trees with Essie Luminously Luxe Holiday Minis

Glitter Christmas Trees with Essie Luminously Luxe Holiday Minis

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! I've been in such the merry spirit this year, more than ever I'd say.  I used to not really like Christmas music, then the past few years it started to grow on me, and this year...I could not get enough Christmas music, it is so infectious and exhilarating and cheerful, I just want more and more!

Glitter Christmas Trees with Essie Luminously Luxe Holiday Minis

Shown here are my favorite Christmas nails to date: glitter Christmas trees with Essie Lumiously Luxe mini Christmas set from Ulta.  The base is Size Matters, a warm and deep red creme which was opaque in two smooth and easy coats. I then used striping tape to tape off triangles for the trees and used Rock At The Top which is the more yellow gold glitter of the two glitters in the set. To fill in the triangles to make the glitter Christmas trees I did have to dab the glitter a little bit but for the most part it was easy because the glitter was nice and dense.

I then glued on rhinestone stars for the Christmas tree toppers on each nail using nail glue, and added top coat to seal and gloss for the final result. Voila, easy and perfect Christmas nails, which match practically every outfit, flash and stand out from the glitter which is very forgiving and makes for excellent nail art.  Shown below is the cute box that I got the set in.

Hope you enjoyed my Christmas nails, I can't wait to make some epic glitter New Year's nails!

Snow and Snowflakes with Urban Decay Chaos and OPI Solitaire

Snow and Snowflakes with Urban Decay Chaos and OPI Solitaire

Happy Christmas Eve! Quick post here as I am off to dinner.  Shown is Urban Decay Chaos, a bright royal blue shimmer with OPI Liquid Sand in Solitaire as the snow and snowflakes.  I used a top coat to seal it all in instead of leaving the texture of the liquid sand for a longer lasting mani.

Picked up Chaos at Nordstrom Rack for only $5, originally it was $15!  Look how cool the bottle design is below...which is why I HAD to buy it.

I've been super into the holiday spirit this year, I have one more Xmas mani to show tomorrow and it's my favorite one yet!

Christmas Nubs with Zoya Rina and Candy Stripe Accent Nails

Short Christmas Nails with Zoya Rina and Candy Stripe Accent Nails

NUBS!!!!!  Here are my surprising cute nubbins if I don't say so myself. I adore short nails with wild nail polish because it doesn't look as witchy as with long nails, so ironically it is perfect that my nails broke during the season of dark and bold colors.

Short Christmas Nails with Zoya Rina and Candy Stripe Accent Nails

On top of two coats of Color Club Wild Cactus I am wearing one coat of Zoya Rina, a gorgeous pine green metallic bar glitter with tidbits of blue bar glitter thrown in for great visual interest. I then took my Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art striper in Red and freehanded the candy stripes on my ring fingernail and thumbnail.

Finished it off with top coat and BAM! Xmas nails! I love this polish, its soooooo sparkly and gorgeous, I think I need to order the other colors ASAP.

Ciaté Pecan Pie Swatches

Ciaté Pecan Pie Swatches

Continuing from my last post, here is another goodie I picked up on sale at TJ Maxx: Ciaté Pecan Pie.

Ciaté Pecan Pie Swatches

Pecan Pie is a deep, rich, reddish brown burnt caramel with a healthy amount of gold shimmer.

Ciaté Pecan Pie Swatches

This color is perfect for the holidays when pecan pie is running rampant at family get-togethers. As you know I am late on my postings, so I will tell you I wore this on Thanksgiving.

Ciaté Pecan Pie Swatches

Well folks, this is the last of my long nails for now (which I talked about here)...stay tuned for a whole bunch of Christmas nubs!

Orly Velvet Rope Swatches

As I've mentioned before, I love me a good sale.  Combine that with nail polish and ding ding ding! Winning! So naturally bought all the pretty ones I found at Big Lots, TJ Maxx and the dollar store.  I have here Orly Velvet Rope, a gorgeous glitter-flecked purple that reminds me of twilight (no, not the vampire series but actual twilight in the sky).

Orly Velvet Rope Swatches

Velvet Rope went on smoothly in two coats, shown with top coat.  It's just a stunning color but more often than not I find these kind of purples to be garish on my long fingernails and against my skintone and hard to match with clothing.  Oh well...purple til I DIE!

Orly Velvet Rope Swatches

Below are the polishes from my haul.  Just realized that I snuck in a Julie G polish in the shot (furthest on the left) which I did not get on sale at Rite Aid, but nonetheless it was new so I must have got excited and just threw it in the mix!

Galaxy Nails with No7 In The Stars, Orly Goth, and a bunch of others I can't remember...

I did this one seemingly ages ago...so I apologize for only remembering 2 of the many polishes I used for these galaxy nails: No7 In The Stars which is a multichrome glass fleck top coat that I used on top of the finished galaxy, and Orly Goth which is a black with tiny silver glitter which make it look like a night sky.

Galaxy Nails with No7 In The Stars and Orly Goth

What I do remember is that I completely nail failed this mani the first time around and I took the whole thing off and started over after about 1.5 hours in...ugh! My tip to you is to use your more opaque polishes and sponge on with a very light hand, I was trying to make more of a pattern which screwed the whole thing up.

I looooove this look even though it took me ages! AND I finally figured out my new lightbox setup! What kind of nail art have you failed?

Review of Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques in Stickers and Stones

I accidentally came across these Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques while perusing my local Dollar Tree for non-polish things and my loud gasp probably startled everyone in the store. I couldn't believe there were so many different ones, I must have spent about 20 minutes digging through the display to make sure I got every single one lol.  In total I got 16 for one dolla each (!!!) and I excitedly left the store with a big smile on my face.

Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques from the Dollar Store

So after buying these I had a thought that there must be a reason that they are at the dollar store. Don't get me wrong, I buy and love many things at the dollar store but obviously if they are selling well they wouldn't end up there.  After first trying Stickers and Stones I realized that my thinking was correct.  I do like these but there are several way they could be improved.

Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques in Stickers and Stones

Pros: Easy nail art, quick application, beautiful designs, easy to remove, stays on relatively well

Cons:

1. Sizes too small.  Although there are 18 total stickers (9 per hand), they did not all fit my wider nail beds.  Not a big deal, I did an accent nail using Essie Set in Stones.

2. Cannot add top coat.  I was definitely planning on it but when I started on my thumb the applique shriveled up like a raisin and was ruined.  I ended up putting polish on my thumbs instead.

3. Tip wear.  Since I couldn't top coat nor wrap the applique around the tips, the tips showed wear in a couple days.

4. Damaged my nails on removal. Some appliques are made of real polish, which can be cleaned up and removed with polish remover, but these are actual stickers.  It was nice that these stuck on pretty well and were pretty easy to peel off, but they also lifted a few layers of my natural nail which is NOT COOL.

Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques in Stickers and Stones

I do like how quick and easy these are, and I would like to use them again but will probably try with a base coat or two underneath and see if that works. Have you tried any full nail decals that work well for you?

Polish Me Silly Scandolous Multichrome Glitter Top Coat with Zig Zag Nail Art

Helloooo again! Did I really not post for almost a month?! *smacks back of hand* I know it's been waaay too long but I have some really great excuses I'm going to tell you, dear reader: a) it was recently Thanksgiving (the holidays are everyone's favorite excuse), b) I went to a wedding in beautiful Lake Tahoe, and c) it was recently my "round" birthday! Aaaaand...I am now (as in right now) finally using my brand spanking new Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro which is freaking AWE-SOME btw!

Also have some sad(ish) news...during my break I have since broken 3 nails so last night I took the plunge and chopped 'em all down to itty bitty nubbins. *sad face* Must be what I get for "breaking", get it? lol. The positive is that they actually look great in pictures, but not too great in real life.  Better make my new year's resolution now to use my Bliss Kiss and biotin supplements religiously.

Anywho! Back to nail pics. I have a bunch of pics with my long nails that I haven't posted yet that will go up before revealing the nubs. Below I am wearing Polish Me Silly Scandolous, from the Meet My Chromies collection of multichrome glitter top coats that I talked about in my last post.

Polish Me Silly Scandolous Multichrome Glitter Top Coat with Zig Zag Nail Art

I first painted one coat of Wet n Wild Black Creme and allowed to dry.  Then I put 4 strips of striping tape on each nail randomly and painted two coats of Scandolous on top, then quickly removed the tape.  Finished off with top coat and viola! Zig zag lasers.

I have a bunch of posts that I am going to squeeze into December for you, stay tuned for lots of nails!

Polish Me Silly Meet My Chromies Multichrome Glitter Top Coat Collection

Polish Me Silly Meet My Chromies Multichrome Glitter Top Coat Collection

I am soooo late posting these...  I even have some swatches to that I will be even more late with! =S But there is some great news, I will be able to post more regularly because, drum roll please...

I BOUGHT A NEW LAPTOP TODAY! =DDDDD  Now I will regularly have an ultra fast laptop with all my photos and programs in one place instead of scattered between one really old laptop, a netbook that crashes every time I try to run Photoshop, and a good computer that is not mine (meaning I can't use it when I need to). YIPPEE!!!

Color Club Williamsburg and Sonia Kashuk Dime A Dozen Gradient

Color Club Williamsburg and Sonia Kashuk Dime A Dozen Gradient

Today I have nails I wore several weeks ago, a brush gradient using Color Club Williamsburg as the base and Sonia Kashuk Dime A Dozen as the top gradient.  I say several weeks ago because I still had beautiful sunlight for these shots, and now it is foggy and raining and I am failing with my new lightbox setup (boo).

Color Club Williamsburg and Sonia Kashuk Dime A Dozen Gradient

I first painted 2 coats of Williamsburg, then used a fan brush turned parallel to my fingers, so that one end of the brush was pointing toward my knuckle and the other end towards the tip of my nail, and lightly brushed up and down until i got the coverage I liked. Having the brush perpendicular (how you would think to use the brush) did not work for the gradient.

I thought this was a fun and different look for fall, might even be better for winter. What do you guys think? Do you prefer brush or sponge gradients?

Lancome Vernis in Love 350M Rose Thé Swatches

Lancome Vernis in Love 350M Rose Thé Swatches

I love sales.  I mentioned that my favorite shopping day is Black Friday, which is where I picked up this beauty (as well as a handful of others) for only a few bucks.  It has been in my untried pile until I pulled out all my neutrals and muted colors for fall.

Lancome Vernis in Love 350M Rose Thé Swatches

This is Lancome Vernis in Love 350M Rose Thé, a super creamy brownish pink that applies smooooth like butter. If you like flat and wide brushes like I do, then you will love the Vernis in Love brushes. It is one of the best brushes I have ever used and it has a rounded tip which is perfect for the cuticle line. I used two thin coats and top coat for these pictures.

Lancome Vernis in Love 350M Rose Thé Swatches

At first I thought this was another boring and flat pink creme, but on the nail it is so classy and appropriate for fall! Sometimes you just want to have simple nails, and doing them with an exceptional formula makes them even better.

Lancome Vernis in Love 350M Rose Thé Swatches

This polish makes me feel cozy and ready for cooler weather...except I live in California and I can still tan in the sun right now lol.  Where's the chilly afternoons at, I want to put on my new winter boots and sweaters!

Lancome Vernis in Love 350M Rose Thé Swatches

Do you own any Lancome Vernis in Love polishes? I would love to find some more on the upcoming Black Friday, only two weeks away!

Polish Me Silly Cosmic Kisses Multichrome Polish

Polish Me Silly Cosmic Kisses Multichrome Polish with Nail Vinyl Art

From the Meet My Chromies collection, Polish Me Silly Cosmic Kisses is a super-bendy-super-awesome-color-shifting-multichrome-holographic-sparkle polish. Phew, say that 10 times fast! Most noticeably on my nails it shifts from bright blue (in bright direct light) to purple to a rich pinkish burgundy. Shown is 2 coats plus topcoat, with KBShimmer Nail Vinyls and OPI Alpine Snow to make the designs.

Polish Me Silly Cosmic Kisses and Guilty Pleasure

As shown above, Cosmic Kisses is almost the same as Guilty Pleasure, except with added holographic sparkly goodness. I of course had to buy them both because they are almost the same and not the same.  (And everyone and their mother raved about both of them so I couldn't decide.) They are both from the Meet My Chromies collection.

Polish Me Silly Cosmic Kisses Multichrome Polish with Nail Vinyl Art

This was part of my recent Polish Me Silly haul, and what I just absolutely love about the company (besides their excellent customer service and wonderful mother-daughter team) is that they offer mini bottles of all their polishes!  This is perfect for me for several reasons: a) mini things are much more cute and exciting than regular-sized things (think sliders and mini Butterfingers), b) they are cheaper (not by volume but by total price), and c) I can try out a lot more colors! What a smart business tactic for people like me.

Polish Me Silly Cosmic Kisses Multichrome Polish with Nail Vinyl Art

And another reason why Polish Me Silly is awesome? They put MY nails on their website!  eeeeee I'm nail famous!!
