Formula X Ur Square Stamped with Lotus Flowers

Formula X Ur Square Stamped with Lotus Flowers

Ur Square is one of the Lusters from Formula X for Sephora. It is described as a misty rose glitter but on my hands it leans more taupe and dries down to a matte light texture.  I then stamped lotus flowers from MoYou London Joan the Pro Collection 08 plate , and added a top coat because it looked a little dull without it.

I have a love/hate relationship with this polish:
LOVE: A glitter that removes like a regular polish (read: no need to use foil!) This is usually the case for textured polishes.
HATE: Even with top coat, this polish began to chip the very next day, and then I could not stop picking at it because pieces would just flick right off. UGH. I had to take it off after one day because otherwise I would have damaged my nails again.

If you haven't noticed, I stamped the image upside-down (well it is right-side up for me, but most people stamp so that the image is right-side up to others) because my nails are getting too long for that plate and this was one of the only images that had a complete flower on one side. Basically it gave me room to transfer the image closer to the free edge without a break in the image.  I wish that more small images weren't cut into a square/rectangle because the image gets cut off. Guess I'll need to buy more full image plates then :P

Colors by Llarowe My Own Private Paradise Swatches

Colors by Llarowe My Own Private Paradise Swatches

Today's nail polish is My Own Private Paradise from the Summer 2014 collection by Colors by Llarowe, a gorgeous light magenta-purple holo that has firmly taught me that my camera hates purples, preferring blue instead.  I do wonder if it is possibly my camera reflecting onto the holo (I have a dark blue camera). But I have heard of purple-hating cameras too, so I just dunno!

What I have done is carefully edit the color in Photoshop to most closely resemble this spectacular color, so please be aware of that.  I would even say it is even more warm that the pictures appear, which is my kind of purple!  Also I found this to be a very wearable color, muted indoors and a soft yet striking holo outdoors.

I must get my hands on more of Llarowe's polishes! What are your favorite holos?

Funky French Hearts with Barry M Green Berry and Sally Hansen Flashy Fuschia

Funky French Hearts with Barry M Green Berry and Sally Hansen Flashy Fuschia

Even though Valentine's Day is over, I just can't give up the hearts just quite yet! Plus, I had the best Valentine's Day I've had, like, EVER, so I'm still feelin' the love.  I will give all the details at the end of the post, but first, NAILS!

Funky French Hearts with Barry M Green Berry and Sally Hansen Flashy Fuschia

This mani is so easy to do, and is perfect for almond-shaped nails. I used two coats of Sally Hansen Flashy Fuschia on the entire nail, and then did the funky french hearts using Barry M Green Berry. I then did the reverse on my ring fingers to give some more visual interest.  To make the hearts, all you do is take your polish brush, start where you want the top of the heart (either the right or left bump) and paint diagonally down towards your nail's free edge, then repeat for the other bump.

As I mentioned in my last post, I was off to my Valentine's Day surprise at the crack of dawn. And just as I suspected, we were off to Napa for a HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE!!! I actually didn't suspect anything until the day before, when I was told we would be leaving at 5:30 in the morning, so I still felt very surprised and excited when I found out the next day. Plus, it was waaaaaay more epic than I imagined, so it was fantastic.

Afterwards was a delicious champagne breakfast, and then, since we were already in Napa, we went wine tasting at the Del Dotto Caves. We were both exhausted after that, so we went home for a long nap. When evening came around, we went out to San Francisco to Urban Putt, a trendy hipster miniature golf place with a full bar and awesomely-designed holes such as Quake! and Dia De Los Muertos, and after that we went to see Basment Jaxx. PHEW it was a long day and night, but I had the best time :)

Valentine's Day Stamping Finale: Nicole by OPI Kourt is Red-y For a Pedi

THE FINALE HAS COME! It is finally Valentine's day today and I saved the most lovey-dovey plates for last.  I have actually scheduled this post because today I will be at my big surprise, courtesy of my boyfriend, and I need to leave the house at the crack of dawn. I was only told to dress comfy but nice and in layers, so I do have a sneaking suspicion of what it is, but it still will be a surprise so I am very excited and can't wait to share with you what happens!

Valentine's Day Stamping Finale: Nicole by OPI Kourt is Red-y For a Pedi

I first painted two coats of OPI Apline Snow and put a quick-dry top coat on. I then used the words from plate 30 and 43 from PUEEN 2013 Set 24E - Love Elements, my Konad Stamper, and Konad Stamping Polish in Black.  After that I free-handed the hearts using Nicole by OPI Kourt is Red-y For a Pedi, which was super simple, just one stripe from the side to the middle and one stripe from the other side to the middle.  Lastly I topped it all off with top coat, cleaned up my cuticles and done!

I am totally in love with this look, it is so chic and mod, and kinda looks like newspaper with red hearts on it.  At first I did not realize the red was actually a crelly, but I quite like how you can see the black stamping underneath now.

I hope you've enjoyed my Valentine's Day stamping series as much as I have!  I love it so much I may be sneaking in some more of these french tip hearts soon, I have so many ideas! Thanks for looking and Happy Valentine's Day :)

Valentine's Day Stamping Part 5: Zoya Kiki

Valentine's Day Stamping Part 4: Lancome Flirty Red and Model's Own Indian Ocean

Today's Valentine's Day stamping is with Zoya Kiki, a bright hot pink with gorgeous purple shimmer.  Great formula, so easy to apply I had almost no cleanup. Using my Winstonia XL squishy stamper and Konad Stamping Polish in Black, I stamped fishnet hearts using plate 27 from PUEEN 2013 Set 24E - Love Elements.

I did have to do something a little tricky here because I used an image smaller than my nail. I pulled the stamper out of the handle and picked up the image as normal from the plate. I then folded the stamper just a bit (like a taco) to stretch the image on the stamp.  I then rolled the stamp on my nail and voila! The image fit my nails.  It is a little messy to do this, as you can see on my nails as well, but I was able to use the image I wanted.

I just love Zoya shimmers, they have the BEST formula!  What are your favorite Zoyas?

Lancome Flirty Red and Model's Own Indian Ocean with Heart Stamping

Today's Valentine's stamping is with plate 68 from PUEEN Stamping Buffet Set 24B - New Invention and with Konad Stamping Polish in White.  Since my nails are getting nice and long I had to switch from my Konad Stamper to my Winstonia XL squishy stamper, which doesn't work as nicely as the Konad but does the job fairly well.

Lancome Flirty Red and Model's Own Indian Ocean with Heart Stamping

I started with a base of Lancome Vernis in Love Flirty Red, and after stamping I used one coat of Model's Own Indian Ocean on top.  It ended up changing the white stamping to a pale baby blue and gave an overall pink shimmer, as shown below in my outdoor pic.

These nails kind of remind me of Alice in Wonderland! I'm having so much fun with stamping, what are your favorite stamping plates you could share with me?

The Nail Polish Blogger Connection Link Up

On the first of February I became a part of the Facebook group called The Nail Polish Blogger Connection, and already it's been one of best things I've done to learn and grow as a blogger. They have created a Inlinkz for members of the group to post a little bit about themselves and their blogs, and I have joined to link up with other bloggers and to share a little bit about myself below.

Galaxy Nails with No7 In The Stars and Orly Goth

What is the focus of your blog?
As a new blog and relatively new polish addict, I am going to say that my focus is about trying new things: new or new-to-me polishes, nail art, nail accessories such as decals, nail shapes, really anything that piques my interest.  As I am in my beginnings there is a lot for me to try, and as I learn and grow as a blogger I do feel the blog naturally focusing on what I like best, which lately is about what I am doing best: stamping! Very exciting for me because after a bunch of trial and error I just figured out how to do it right. Yippee!

What made you start blogging?
After delving into the world of polish, I naturally began taking pictures of my nail work.  I had thoughts about blogging yet I was never satisfied with my photos.  The day I had good shots of my nails was the day that I started this blog, literally!

What other blogs were/are inspirational to you?
There are many, many blogs that I follow and aspire to be of their caliber, I can't possibly name them all without fear of leaving some out!  But if I had to name three that come to mind that first reeled me in I would say: Scrangie, where I first started looking at and becoming obsessed with swatches; Lucy's Stash, whose exquisitely long and perfect nails and art kept me coming back for more; and Very Emily, whose lovely swatches helped me burn a hole in my wallet, and has absolutely one of my favorite blog designs.
What advice would you give to someone just starting a nail blog?
Don't give up. It may seem like you are talking to thin air for months and months (any maybe even a year or more...but I hope not!). Work on developing a routine, good content, and staying social with fellow bloggers by actively commenting and joining groups (like this one!) and you will get your foot in the door.
What is your polish Holy Grail (deliberately left vague...)
I'm going to interpret this as the one thing polish-related that I couldn't live without, and without a doubt the one product that changed my nail life is Bliss Kiss Pure Nail Oil. I have been meaning to write a review on it, but to summarize it has drastically improved the strength and flexibility of my nails, repaired the condition of my cuticles, and given me great nail length. Fun fact: I have bad outdoor allergies, and during the thick of allergy season when I get hives around my eyes, applying Bliss Kiss on them actually helps them heal!

What else would you like to share about your blog?
Not much, just NAILS! lol. Other than blogging I am most active on Instagram, where I share additional nail-related photos not posted to the blog, as well as a few photos/videos of my favorite fur baby Baltic.

To end, can you share some links to posts that you're especially proud of?

Valentine's Day Stamping Part 3: Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together

Valentine's Day Stamping Part 1: Sephora Color Hit Dangerous and Zoya Kissy
Valentine's Day Stamping Part 2: Dance Legend Termo Shine No. 179

More Valentine fun with stamping! This time I went for a more subtle and romantic look, using Nicole by OPI in Purple Yourself Together, a dusty mauve-y purple with a gorgeous gold shimmer.  My camera had the hardest time capturing the color (it made them so bright and blue-toned) so I did my best editing them so they would be more accurate. The nails are most representative of the color, and my second pic shows the beautiful shimmer on the nail.

Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together Stamped with Pueen Roses

I used roses from plate 64 from PUEEN Set 24B - Stamping Buffet, my trusty Konad Stamper, and Konad Stamping Polish in Black.  I was a bit smudgy this time on a few nails but it was because I pressed to hard.  Gotta remember to use a lighter hand.
